My Story - How I Discovered Hypnotherapy
Finding Hypnotherapy
I first became interested in hypnotherapy as a way of dealing with the anxiety, depression, pain, and fatigue that were disabling me due to Fibromyalgia. I had been suffering for years and had been forced to give up my career as a Primary school teacher. I lost everything and moved back into my parents' house where I spent every day in bed or confined to the sofa and rarely went out. After several years of this, I eventually knew I had to do something to help myself.
I had CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) but found that I was unable to put the techniques into practice. I had lost my self-confidence, had very little self-esteem and so had no motivation to work on improving myself. I had always been very interested in psychology, though, so I started researching. I eventually learned about the power of the subconscious mind. I began to wonder whether hypnosis might help me.
I started investigating by downloading generic mp3 hypnotherapy recordings and listening to those daily. I found that they actually helped me to control my pain and anxiety and wanted to know more. So, I decided to really study hypnotherapy and began to write and record my own mp3s, which I tailored to myself and found even more effective. I also learned self-hypnosis which I could use anytime and anywhere. It felt as though this fog of depression and anxiety that had been suffocating me for so long was finally beginning to lift.
My Professional Training
I soon realised that if hypnotherapy could help me this much, it could help many others, too. So, I took a course in hypnotherapy and after months of study, finally received my initial Hypnotherapy Diploma in 2016. I also studied Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and went on to complete an NLP Practitioner Diploma.
In October 2017, I began ten months of further training with Adam Eason at the Anglo European College of Therapeutic Hypnosis in Bournemouth. I went on to achieve my Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma (HPD), awarded by the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH) and recognised by NCFE. I continue to develop my knowledge and skills through ongoing professional training.
How I Work Today
Today, I practise from The Healing Room at The Retreat, my peaceful home-based therapy room in Cullompton, Devon. I draw on hypnotherapy, NLP, CBT-informed techniques and life coaching to offer a compassionate, personalised approach to helping people overcome anxiety, build confidence and make positive changes in their lives.
Alongside my clinical hypnotherapy work, I also have a longstanding interest in the more exploratory side of hypnosis, including past life regression and connecting with our inner wisdom. I believe hypnosis can offer a fascinating opportunity for self-discovery, whether we approach the experience from a spiritual perspective or simply with an open and curious mind.
Having experienced severe anxiety and depression myself, I understand how overwhelming life can sometimes feel. I also know how valuable it can be to discover new ways of coping, regain confidence and begin to feel hopeful about the future. If you're struggling with anxiety or panic attacks, I'd be delighted to support you as you take those first steps towards positive change.
